Service Guide

When fabrication is the right fit

Fabrication is the right service when the finished job is more than a flat sheet. It covers acrylic boxes, display cases, plinths, risers, covers, guards, enclosures, retail displays, donation boxes, and custom assembled pieces.

The fabrication team combines cutting, bending, bonding, polishing, drilling, finishing, and hand assembly. That matters when the final product needs to look clean from every visible angle, not just meet a flat cut size.

Choose fabrication when the object has joins, returns, lids, access panels, hinges, polished edges, or display-quality finish expectations. A fabricated acrylic product usually needs design review before pricing is locked.

Design and approval notes

Good fabrication briefs include outside dimensions, inside clearances, material colour, thickness, edge finish, opening direction, access points, and how the item will be used. Photos of similar products are helpful when drawings are not available.

For display cases and covers, the team needs to understand what goes inside. Object size, handling, dust protection, visibility, airflow, and whether the cover is lifted often can all change the best construction method.

For commercial work, note whether the piece is one-off, a prototype, or repeat production. The right build method can change if a job is likely to become a recurring order.

How fabrication jobs are quoted

Fabrication pricing depends on material, cut time, polishing, bends, joins, assembly time, hardware, design review, and finish level. A simple cover and a museum-style case may look similar in a photo but require very different labour.

If timing matters, include the deadline and install date. Fabricated work may need staged approval, material ordering, cutting, bonding time, finishing, and packing before it is safe to deliver or collect.

If the finished piece needs to ship outside Sydney, discuss packing early. Clear acrylic fabrication can travel, but fragile corners, tall pieces, and polished display faces need more protection than flat sheet.

For pieces that people will touch or see up close, mention handling expectations too. Finger marks, sharp corners, lid movement, cleaning, and public-facing presentation can all affect finish and construction choices.

Common Questions

What acrylic products can Plastix fabricate?

Plastix fabricates display cases, boxes, plinths, risers, covers, guards, enclosures, retail displays and other custom acrylic products from drawings, sketches or reference photos.

Do I need technical drawings for fabrication?

Technical drawings help, but they are not always required for early quoting. A sketch, dimensions and reference photos can be enough for Plastix to review the job and request any missing details.

Can fabricated acrylic be shipped Australia-wide?

Some fabricated pieces can be shipped, but freight depends on size, fragility and packaging risk. Flat sheet ships more easily than tall or delicate display pieces.
