Service Guide
When drilling and tapping is the right fit
Drilling and tapping is used when a plastic sheet or part needs holes, countersinks, threaded holes, mounting points, cable openings, ventilation patterns, or installation-ready fixing details.
It is common on guards, covers, signage panels, display parts, machine panels, brackets, access covers and fabricated assemblies. The goal is to deliver parts that can be installed cleanly without site drilling.
Choose this service when hole position matters. A rough hand-drilled hole can ruin an otherwise accurate panel, especially around standoffs, hinges, hardware, machinery, or visible retail work.
Hole and fixing notes
Quotes should show hole diameter, centre positions, edge offsets, countersink requirements, tap size, quantity, and whether holes are clearance holes or threaded holes.
Plastic expands and behaves differently from metal, so fixing details should match the material. Large panels may need oversized holes, slots, washers, or movement allowance depending on the install environment.
If the part is replacing an existing panel, photos or the old part help confirm the real hole pattern. Existing buildings, frames and machines often have fixing points that are not perfectly square or evenly spaced.
For transparent guards or display panels, hole quality matters visually as well as mechanically. Tell Plastix if holes will sit near polished edges, graphics, hardware, hinges or public-facing faces.
How drilled jobs are quoted
Pricing depends on material, thickness, hole count, pattern complexity, drilling method, tapping, countersinking, setup and quantity. A sheet with many holes can be more complex than the outside dimensions suggest.
For repeat patterns, CNC drilling can keep hole positions consistent across a batch. For simple one-off panels, the quote may be more straightforward if the hole pattern is clearly dimensioned.
Drilling can be combined with saw cutting, CNC machining, fabrication and polishing. Include all finishing and installation requirements so the part arrives ready for use.
If hardware is already chosen, send the screw, standoff, hinge, washer or bracket details. A hole that suits one fixing method may not suit another, especially on clear panels where mistakes are visible.

Common Questions
Can Plastix drill holes in acrylic and polycarbonate?
Yes. Plastix can drill acrylic, polycarbonate and other sheet materials, including repeated hole patterns and installation-ready fixing points.
Can plastic sheet be tapped for screws?
Some plastic materials can be tapped depending on thickness, screw size and use case. Plastix can advise whether tapped holes, clearance holes or inserts are the better option.
Do I need to supply hole positions?
Yes. A dimensioned hole pattern, drawing, sample part or clear sketch is needed if the holes must line up with existing fixings or hardware.
