How to Clean and Care for Acrylic Sheets
By Plastix Team

Acrylic is a remarkably durable material, but it does require some care to maintain its optical clarity over time. Here are our top tips from 40+ years of working with the material.
Never use glass cleaner, ammonia-based products, or abrasive cloths on acrylic. These will cause micro-scratches that cloud the surface over time. Instead, use warm water with a mild dish soap and a soft microfibre cloth. Always rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean, soft cloth.
For stubborn marks or light scratches, specialist acrylic polish can restore clarity. Apply with a soft cloth in circular motions, then buff clean. For deeper scratches, fine-grade sandpaper (1200-2000 grit) followed by polishing compound can often achieve a full restoration.
Static is acrylic's enemy, it attracts dust like a magnet. Anti-static sprays designed for plastics can significantly reduce dust attraction and make routine cleaning easier. Apply after cleaning for best results.
When installing acrylic panels, leave the protective film in place until the very last moment. This factory-applied film protects against scratches during handling and installation. Peel it off only once all surrounding work is complete.
